What CYC means.
CYC refers to the Craft Yarn Council’s Standard Yarn Weight System. It runs from 0 (the finest) to 7 (the thickest), and describes thickness—not the weight of one ball or the number of plies. We measure WPI and test gauge before assigning the closest category.
- 01 Measure WPI in several places without stretching the yarn.
- 02 Confirm net weight and meterage from the production label.
- 03 Crochet, wash, and measure a 4-inch single-crochet swatch.
- 04 Assign the closest CYC category and publish the tested gauge.
